Some Great Swims at FastSwim Invitational

December 22, 2023

The Delta Sungod Swim Club had 19 athletes compete at the Richmond Rapids’ FastSwim Invitational.  The meet of 600 swimmers saw teams from all over western Canada compete with some of the fastest times in the country posted there.

For Delta athletes this was an opportunity to come down from all the work of the last fourteen weeks and feel fresh, and sharp going into their racing opportunities.  Club members did not disappoint; new club records, new provincial qualifiers and a ton of new personal bests.

As the season progresses there are substantial buildups of volume and intensities during training.  During the last few weeks of the training cycle swimmers get to shed some of that volume, and volume at high intensity and work on the quality aspects of swimming.  They then test those practice paces at a swim meet in the hopes of bettering their times.

Swimmers who achieved new Lower Mainland Region/Fraser Valley Divisional time standards were: Mia Bruneau (11) in the 200 IM, Kaia Hall (12) in the 50 butterfly, Nora Kennich (16) in the 200 IM, and Emma Zhang in the 100 free.    Emma Zhang also qualified her BC Provincial qualifying time in the 100 freestyle.

Finalists at FastSwim for Delta were:
Gabrielle Wang (13) 7th 50 breast, 8th 100 breast
