Fraser Valley Winter Divisional Championships

February 25, 2023

What a great weekend of racing at the Fraser Valley Divisional Championships.  Delta saw 16 athletes compete at this weekend’s 3 day meet at Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre.  Delta swimmers made some surprising leaps in some unexpected events.  Swimmers surprised coaches with some out of nowhere performances in events that they do not usually swim.  The coaching staff was pleasantly surprised to see swimmers achieve personal bests, and top 8 finishes in a wide array of events.

This weekend’s meet was a pre-cursor for BC Provincial Championships being held in Victoria, BC during March 2-5th.   Delta will be bringing 8 athletes.

Gabrielle Wang (12) broke the 11-12 year old girls 50 metre Breaststroke Short Course.   The girls’ 13-14 relay teams broke new club records in the 200 Freestyle Relay (R. Soroke, M. Paredes Troughon, G. Bruneau, E. Zhang) and the 200 Medley Relay (G. Bruneau, R. Soroke, M. Paredes Troughton, E. Zhang).

We would like to acknowledge Gurshaan Sangha’s 13-14 year old boys 50 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke Long Course club records that were missed on the Edmonton Open press release.  Congratulations to Gurshaan on his swims.

DSSC saw a few new Western Canadian qualifiers come out of this weekend’s Fraser Valley Divisional Championships.  Grace Bruneau (13) qualified in the 200 IM, Madelyn Paredes Troughton (13) qualified in the 100 and 200 metre breaststroke, Gurshaan Sangha (14) qualified the 200 breaststroke, and Rebecca Soroke in the 200 fly, and 50 freestyle.

Swimmers achieving 100% personal bests this weekend with no disqualifications were: Harleen Rai (14), and Gabrielle Wang (12).
