December swimmer of the month and so many new group move ups for dssc!

January 12, 2024

The month of December goes a bit like this....mini meet #2, dssc distance meet, pass meet #2, spartan lmr, fast swim, holiday break! This was a jam packed four weeks of swimming for the club and a well deserved 10 days of rest. Congratulations to everyone on the many personal best times, club records, first times attending a meet and everything in between.

The coaches are excited to announce.....

Swimmer of the month for December

Learn to compete: Philip Zhang

Its been a great to watch Philip as he continues to focus on his swimming and drive to get better in the sport. Not only in the month of December but throughout the season we have watched Philip gain confidence. He has shown his enjoyment of swimming and continues impress us with his improvement of skills.

Novice: Harris Shen

During the month of December Harris had been working hard to improve himself in the pool. A major thing Harris has been working on is his streamline and over the month of December it has gotten a lot better.

Regional: Mikela Villacorta

Mikela really stepped up her effort over the month of December. We as a group have been working hard on turns and Mikela always puts in a lot of effort and focus during these learning moments.

Junior Blue & White: Mia Bruneau

The reason this swimmer was chosen for the month of December wasn’t actually discussed within our groups. We spent a lot of time talking about honesty of effort, and about making relevant changes when things got difficult in practices. Our swimmer of the month for December was chosen for her patience and for her perseverance through the grind of the first 4 months of the season. Mia Bruneau’s training since the start of the season was always honest, but it took her some time to train into the goal times that she was looking for. Changes don’t always happen over night in swimming, but her patience and honesty got her where she wanted to be by December.

Congratulations Mia on all your hard work over the first third of the season, and we are looking forward to working with you through your next endeavour.
